Major Indonesian power plant reduces CO2 emissions with alternative for steam soot blowers (Paiton/Jawa)
Soot blower steam consumption reduced by 65% — back-pass flue gas temperature reduced by 10 °C with saving of 13,000 t coal/yr

The Paiton power plant operated by YTL is the biggest power producer in Indonesia. The ABB / GE type 2 pass boilers are equipped with steam soot blowers. Since August 2022, have been installed four P-WAVE generators at the #50 boiler in the back-pass / economizer section of boilers. The generators are operated once per hour at 600–750 bar. This performance upgrade allowed the plant to reduce back-pass flue gas temperature by 10 °C and soot-blower steam consumption by 67%. Base on this success story, a similar follow-up order for boiler #60 was placed in 2024.
